Christine Howes MA
Christine was born in Bristol and grew up here. She trained at Kingston upon Thames College of Art and then at Central School of Art, London, specialising in Educational Illustration.
After working as an illustrator both in London and Australia, she returned to Bristol and began printmaking in 2001, learning wood engraving, lino-cutting and woodcutting techniques at Spike Print Studio. Many of her prints combine two different methods of printing, using both lino and wood.
“I find these methods of relief printing a good challenge: it takes days to draw and cut the blocks and each colour must be printed separately. Wildlife and the environment have long been my inspiration, and fine details have always fascinated me: the shine in an eye or the textures of feathers and water…”
