Cath Read is an award –winning Bristol based artist who draws her inspiration from the interwoven rhythms, patterns and light of British landscapes and coastal fringes. In Bristol she is especially well known for her paintings of the city, especially of the areas near her home: St Andrew’s Park, the allotments in St Werburgh’s, cityscapes of Bishopston, Redland and Cotham all feature regularly.
“Landscapes and Cityscapes are my inspiration, in particular the effect of humans on the landscape – the patterns created by building, farming, tree planting whether current or historical are all a source of interest to me. I often refer to my artwork as ‘peopled landscapes. The effects of morning or evening light are often the trigger for many of my paintings.”
After many years of working in pastels she is now painting in oils and “Foxgloves” is great example of this transition.
