Jenny Urquhart
Jen has always had a keen interest in both art and natural history, and after a degree in Biology at Oxford University, she spent several years teaching in Bristol, while painting in her spare time. Her early work proved very popular and she was soon able to devote herself full-time to painting; ten years on, and she has become one of Bristol’s most well-known and popular artists, especially on the Gromit and Sean the Sheep trails.
Jen is best known for her bold and colourful images of the city, painted in mixed media using a combination of acrylics, watercolour, pen and collage. Other mixed media paintings depict some of her favourite haunts in Devon and Cornwall, where she is a regular visitor.
She also likes to experiment with computer-based graphics, and has produced a number of digital prints – the Croyde surfers have been especially popular, as well as line drawings of iconic Bristol landmarks.
More recently, Jen has been working on a series of paintings featuring the woodlands in Leigh Woods and Ashton Court, developing a distinctive ‘splatter’ technique using acrylic paints to help create an almost mystical atmosphere.
