Laura Cramer
Laura Cramer grew up on the unspoilt coastline of southern Ireland. Craving adventure she went to Denmark and studied Russian at the Slavic Institute of Copenhagen in the late 1980’s. Moving to Moscow to complete her studies, it was there that she met and worked with writer and artist Yuri Koval, setting her on a path to becoming a painter rather than linguist.
Already with a strong recognisable style, Laura moved to Bristol in the mid-nineties, and became known for her semi abstract cityscapes, exhibiting widely throughout the city, and getting involved with public art projects. A growing sense of restlessness, fused with a desire to explore new subject matter was evident as she longed to develop a deeper level of complexity to her work.
In 2015 Laura met and became friends with Hugo Grenville and attended his School of Painting. It proved the pivotal moment that she was seeking, and under Hugo’s mentorship was put through her paces, revisiting her understanding of colour, tone and mark making. She continues to draw from the wealth of knowledge gained under his tutelage and seeks to paint with depth and sincerity the subject matter that is meaningful to her.
